DeWarmte is a Dutch company founded in 2019 by two former TU Delft students. The company focuses on developing sustainable heating solutions to help people reduce their reliance on natural gas at home. Their main offerings include a hybrid heat pump (the Pomp AO) and a fully electric system, which combines the Pomp AO with the Pomp T. DeWarmte’s mission is to make it easy for households to move away from natural gas (“makkelijk van het gas af”). They aim to make green heating affordable and accessible, supporting the transition to more sustainable homes.
Redesigning the digital experience from the ground up
We designed a brand-new application based on an existing web app, starting entirely from scratch, realising a modern and intuitive way for users to manage their heatpump settings. This redesign introduced native mobile apps for iOS and Android, alongside a desktop web application, replacing the previous responsive website. With complete creative freedom in the design process — limited only by the constraints of the existing backend logic — we prioritized a seamless, user-focused experience.
During an in-depth Foundation Phase we facilitated multiple workshops with the client to understand the product and their objectives for the new app. Additionally, we engaged with existing users to collect valuable insights into their needs and experiences, making sure the new application matches their expectations effectively.
Streamlined workflow for fast and high-quality delivery
For DeWarmte, we focused on delivering a high-quality app quickly, moving from concept design to the first beta implementation in just three months. During the concept phase, we created detailed wireframes for all screens and features, working closely with the client to find the best solutions. After the wireframe phase, we translated these into high-quality UI and visual designs that aligned with the client’s branding and enhanced the user experience. From the start, we worked closely with the development team, ensuring a smooth process and strong alignment between design and development. This collaboration helped us deliver the project faster while maintaining top-tier quality.
A visual design that reflects quality and innovation
For the UI of DeWarmte’s new app, we focused on crafting a design that felt modern, clean, minimal, and sophisticated. Together with the client, we decided on a dark-themed interface, perfectly complementing the brand and reflecting the sleek look of the physical heat pump, which has even won design awards. To highlight this achievement, we incorporated high-resolution images of the heat pump throughout the app. We chose the Figtree Google Font for its suitability for interfaces, replacing the original brand font to improve readability and functionality. Material Design icons were selected for their flexibility and ease of implementation, speeding up the design process while providing a consistent visual language.
We also expanded the brand’s color palette to include additional blue tones for data visualization and system colors for errors and notifications, ensuring both functionality and visual harmony. The result is a modern, clean interface built on a solid design system. The UI was thoughtfully designed for native Android and iOS apps, as well as for desktop, creating a seamless experience across all platforms.

The result of our work is an intuitive and user-friendly app available for iOS, Android, and web, offering users a seamless experience across all platforms. The high-quality digital product not only complements DeWarmte’s award-winning physical heat pump but also enhances the overall brand experience. Our close and effective collaboration with the development team ensured a smooth process and a final product that exceeded expectations. The client was extremely pleased with the outcome, resulting in a successful launch and a valuable addition to DeWarmte’s product ecosystem.
